Phonseca - Between a Dream
After playing synths in bands across Bristol’s eclectic music scene, Matthew followed a more minimal Ambient/Electronica direction. His training as a classical pianist holds a subtle influence over his sound and his Library Music compositions have been synched on primetime T.V, including BBC1, and Polish and Romanian national television.
Between a Dream is his self released debut album that includes tunes from the Afterglow EP which gained airplay on Gideon Coe’s BBC 6 Music show; more recently pieces from Between a Dream have featured on Steve Lamacq's 6 Music daytime and Recommends shows.
The album expands on the EP’s foundations with electro beats, intelligent pop sensibilities and minimal ambient textures. With guest collaborations from bass player Robin Hawkins of The Automatic and the vocals of Kristina Sheppard (particularly beautiful on a cover of New Order's classic Bizarre Love Triangle) as well as a remix from legendary electronica artist Robin Rimbaud (Scanner) Between a Dream sits comfortably with comparisons to Ryuichi Sakamoto, Joy Division and The Pet Shop Boys.
