LP - Blue Note 80 Vinyl Reissue Series

The pianist’s acclaimed, ambitious Blue Note debut. Recorded at Brooklyn’s Systems Two studios during May 2005.

Featuring Vicente Archer (bass) and Damon Reid (drums), plus special guest appearances from Mark Turner (tenor sax) on two tracks and Bilal (vocals) on ‘Chant’. Features nine original Glasper compositions plus a famous cover version of Herbie Hancock’s Riot (which originally appeared on Miles Davis’s Nefertiti album). Rooted in acoustic jazz but with fascinating glimpses of Glasper’s Blue Note future with its jittery, hip-hop-influenced grooves and rolling chord sequences.

In honor of Blue Note Records80th Anniversary, the legendary Jazz label is launching the Blue Note 80 Vinyl Reissue Series - curated by Don Was and Cem Kurosman featuring 180g vinyl releases with albums spanning the many eras of the label’s history presented by themes: Blue Note Debuts, Blue Grooves, Great Reid Miles Covers, Blue Note Live, and Blue Note Drummer Leaders.

The series launches May 10 with the reissue of 3 remarkable Blue Note debuts—Herbie Hancock Takin’ Off, Dexter Gordon Doin’ Allright, and Robert Glasper Canvas—and will continue with 3 albums released each month for the coming year.

The series will be all-analog whenever an analog source is available with Kevin Gray mastering directly from the original master tapes. The albums will be pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal in Germany.
