Released in late 2017, Kelela’s debut studio album, Take Me Apart, didn’t just enter the R&B scene it deconstructed it.

Moving beyond the boundaries of traditional soul, Kelela blended glitchy electronic textures with soulful, intimate vocals to create a soundscape that feels both alien and deeply human.

Kelela collaborated with a "who’s who" of experimental electronic producers to craft the album's signature sound, including Arca (known for her work with Björk and FKA Twigs) , Jam City, Bok Bok and Ariel Rechtshaid.

The result is a "glitchy R&B" that moves seamlessly between club-ready bangers and ambient, ethereal ballads.
