2002 US LP on white vinyl

Today’s Record Of The Day is chosen by Steph who was one of the fab ladies from the Third Man Records pop up we had in store last week.

A genuine early 2000s dance punk classic, The Rapture’s Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks captures the band at a pivotal moment, raw, energetic, abrasive and already pushing post punk into the dancefloor.

Released by Sub Pop Records in May 2001, this six track EP was produced by James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy, the production partnership that would become synonymous with DFA Records and the early 2000s dance punk explosion.

The record sits perfectly between post punk, art punk, dance punk and indie rock, with jagged guitars, driving bass, pounding percussion and Luke Jenner’s distinctive vocals. The Rapture drew on influences including PiL, Television and Chrome while increasingly incorporating elements of dance and pop music.
