Fantastic collection celebrating the funky, soulful side of Jamaica’s legendary Studio One catalogue. Originally released in 2004, the compilation brings together 19 tracks featuring some of the most respected names in Jamaican reggae, ska, rocksteady and funk, including Jackie Mittoo, Alton Ellis, Cedric Im Brooks, Delroy Wilson, Roy Richards, Prince Francis, Lee Arab, The Sharks and Devon Russell. 

The compilation explores the influence of American soul and funk on Jamaican music, combining original Jamaican recordings with versions of well-known soul and funk material. Tracks such as Cedric Im Brooks’ “Shaft,” Jackie Mittoo’s “Hang ’Em High,” Lee Arab’s “Now,” and Delroy Wilson’s “Funky Broadway” demonstrate the distinctive way Studio One artists interpreted contemporary sounds through a Jamaican lens.
