Few reggae albums capture the spirit of UK sound system culture quite like Dub Confrontation – Warrior vs Killer. More than just a dub LP, this legendary release is a musical showdown between two of the most influential sound systems in reggae history: Jah Shaka, known as “The Warrior”, and Fatman Sound System, known as “The Killer.”

This is a reissue of the original 1980 album engineered by the legendary Prince Jammy, Dub Confrontation brings together two giants of the reggae sound system scene.

Rather than competing in a live clash, each sound system takes control of one side of the record:

  • Side A – Fatman “The Killer”
  • Side B – Jah Shaka “The Warrior”

Both sides are built around many of the same rhythm tracks, but each sound system delivers its own unique interpretation through different dub mixes, effects and production techniques.

Jah Shaka vs Fatman

Jah Shaka became one of the most respected figures in UK roots reggae, famous for his powerful, spiritual sessions and earth shaking bass. His side of the album reflects his signature style, featuring deep echo, thunderous percussion, and immersive dub effects that would become synonymous with Shaka sessions.

On the opposite side, Fatman Sound System, led by Ken “Fatman” Gordon, showcases a cleaner, more direct approach to dub mixing. Nicknamed “The Killer,” Fatman’s selections and production style earned enormous respect throughout the UK reggae scene.

Together, these contrasting styles make Dub Confrontation one of the most fascinating dub albums ever released.
