A true landmark in the history of house music, Steve “Silk” Hurley’s “Jack Your Body” is one of those records that helped take the raw energy of Chicago house from underground clubs to a much wider audience.

Originally released in 1986, Jack Your Body is a quintessential Chicago house record, built around a hypnotic groove, infectious rhythm and the unmistakable “jackin’” spirit of the era. Hurley produced the track himself, and its stripped-back, club-focused sound has gone on to become hugely influential in house music. 

What makes this particular record especially important is its impact in the UK. Jack Your Body reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in January 1987, spending two weeks at the top. It was also notable for becoming the first house record to reach No. 1 in the UK, helping open the door for the explosion of dance music that followed.
