A fascinating piece of jazz history: Joe Harriott & John Mayer’s Indo-Jazz Suite, issued in the US on Atlantic Records  in 1966. Recorded in 1965, this groundbreaking project brought together Harriott’s modern jazz approach with John Mayer’s Indian classical influences, creating an adventurous fusion of jazz, raga and Indian instrumentation. 

The album features four compositions “Overture,” “Contrasts,” “Raga Megha” and “Raga Gaud-Saranga” with instruments including alto saxophone, violin, sitar, tambura and Indian percussion alongside a jazz rhythm section.
